Just as bad weather hit the northwest the prior day, Manchester City overwhelmed the visitors aside at the their home ground. It was a convincing three-nil victory for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Hemp. It was a display that truly announced their championship potential as they consolidated their place at the top of the table.

Back-to-Back Defeats for United

This outcome marked back-to-back Women's Super League setbacks for the United manager's side for the initial occasion since spring 2024, leaving them a sizable gap off the league leaders with their title hopes in serious doubt.

Manchester United's capacity to balance domestic and European football with a small squad has been a hotly discussed issue since they secured entry to the Champions League. Looking at the fixture list, it always seemed this was the matchday that would seriously challenge this fortitude. Sadly for the away side, they appeared weary from start to finish, the memorable win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having had an impact.

Lineup Adjustments

Ex- Manchester City player Jess Park came closest, striking the upright, but the visitors were lacking in ideas and did not manage to record a one shot on goal.

The hosts, in contrast, could have extended their advantage when a delightful Vivianne Miedema pass sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to fail to convert but it did not affect the result to the hosts. Previously unable to defeat any opponent who placed above them in the prior term, the manager's side now have victories against the Gunners and Manchester United to position them in a commanding position after nine matches.
