One police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a colleague that got attacked by a knifeman was granted the Royal Recognition for Bravery.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-yr-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he placed a weapon to the throat of his partner Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a motorist subsequent to a traffic accident in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft stated over his radio.

Bodyworn and vehicle camera recording released by the police department depicted Brown, that was clothed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sergeant Foster from behind with a blade extended.

He ran into the policeman who lost balance and dropped to the street, before Sergeant Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the pavement although being continually attacked with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and awaited a clear shot, concluding the confrontation to an end.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get assistance on my neck now, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell received two open wounds to his neck and additional injuries to his limbs and body, while Sergeant Foster suffered slash wounds.

Officials reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's hemorrhaging prior to medical personnel came.

The new recognition follows after the three officers received internal Valor Recognitions in October 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the regional officer association in April 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Courage Honor in summer 2024.

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in April 2024, according to the department.
