World Series Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a combined 51M watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB stated this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
